Team Volunteer Day

18 June 2008

Our company had organized a Team Volunteer Day at the organization called: Dress Your Best. This organization is created to provide an opportunity for needy people to be dressed professionally when they return to the work force. The targeted audience are people who just completed their training programs, and recommended by the government agencies, or people who are in their middle age and seeking to find jobs, yet with financial constraints to get prepared for job interviews or the job itself.

The organization accepts lots of clothes donation. As we were sorting out the clothes, we were surprised that the quality of the donated clothes were pretty high standards and in good conditions, including branded goods. The stylists worked with the customers, to find clothes that are suitable for them, in terms of sizes, colours, style, preference etc.

From the way the stylists dealed with the customers, I learnt to be able to appreciate the customer as who they are, in terms of their likes and dislikes, their sizes, colours and other kinds of limitations. There is always some positive side of that person, that can be leveraged on. And there is always something that suits someone, it's just a matter of finding that something for that someone. From the stylists, I also learnt that we need to be bold to give our opinions, honest yet valuable opinions are always appreciated.

Overall, it's an enjoyable event, not only I got to know more friends from other departments, I also got to spend a relax day outside the stressful work...
