Bulgaria Night
6 May 2007
It's a very trainee thingy, just started by the Trainee community here, but it is enriching and interesting ;) I am looking forward for more other countries...
As a kick-off of the cultural sharing project, we have the trainees from Bulgaria to be the pioneer batch to present about their country. There are presentations, including the country geography, traditions, cultures, languages, cuisines, myths, music & dances and so on...and also local food being prepared for everyone :D
Some interesting discoveries...
° Bulgaria is famous for its rose oil.
° Yoghurt is first founded in Bulgaria, together with those tiny live bacteria in it.
° Name Days refers to some special days dedicated to some ancient traditional saints, and if you are named after these saints, it is also your name day. So those people celebrating their name days will treat everyone else with candies or chocolates.
° Don't put your bags on the floor, because you will become poor.
° Pregnant women should steal a bite of what they crave to eat, otherwise their kids will have birthmarks. And according to these Bulgarians trainees, this is quite true.
° Traditional liquor is known as Rakia, can be as high as 70%! This is deadly!
° Never cheer or toast with non-alcholic drinks, otherwise your children becomes ugly, or it's just simply bad luck...
° Also when cheering or toasting, you have to look into each other eyes, otherwise it's also bad luck for many many years...
° Cheers = Nazdrave!
