Visit to Florenceville
4 May - 15 May 2008
Back for the weekend. Going off to NB again on Sunday morning.
Woke up at 5.30pm and I thought my clock was spoilt. Checked every clock in the house, and realized it was getting late...I have slept for 16 hours, gosh! I must be tired...
It's end of the first week of my business trip to New Brunswick, north east of Canada. It's 1.5 hours from Toronto, and another 2 hours drive from the airport to Florenceville. To be specific, it's a village called Florenceville with about 800 people.
as we drove along the highway...its a good long 1.5 hours drive from Fredericton airport...
Though this is a small village with less than a thousand people, it contains a massive potato operation that provides supplies to all over the world, which also gives it the name of "French fries capital of the world". There is also a Potato Museum, plus a research centre, all being part of the McCain group. French Fry Capital, in a village...
In fact, I was quite excited, first trip out of Toronto, but I know it is going to be a stressful job too, as this is a global client, with a more complex environment.
Lots of meadows and flat plains, dotted with little houses on the hills and along with the river. Very scenic place...
The people here are big, make up 2-3 times of me. Wow, big people. The food here is one factor, it's all fried and oily stuff and large portion too, typical of the American food, eg. burger and fries, fish and chips. Also the lack of exercise too, as places are far apart, and everyone has car.
Big place, need a car to move around. Also a quiet place, just enjoy the nature is good enough. The St. John River that cuts across the plain was at its highest level, overflowing its banks, and flooding on the low areas...hope that next week will be good! Back to Fredericton to catch our flight, and came across this stretch of houses, sitting neatly and looking pretty by the side of the road...
Back to Fredericton, where we pampered ourselves with authentic Mexican food, drinking margarita, picking on nachos with sour cream, cheese & salsa, and enjoying our tacos, quesadillas...hmm...superb!
