Guu Dinner
A new trend in town these days! Guess what ~ that is to queue for the new restaurant in town ~ Guu!
Words have been spreading fiercely in the grapevine about this Japanese restaurant. However, it does not serve sushi, but small little dishes that go with beer! In fact, this is known as an Izakaya (居酒屋) in Japan, which is a common place for the Japanese to hang out after work for beer and bar food.
This restaurant chain originated from Vancouver, and of course, such concept originated from Japan. This is the first restaurant from Guu that came to Toronto, and fully managed by Japanese, even the waiters/waitresses. Another characteristic is that they will greet the customers loud upon entrance and exit, and repeat your orders to the chefs over the top of their voices. So the entire place can be quite noisy.
The restaurant only serves dinner from 5pm onwards. No reservation allow. You have to go directly to queue for seats. The line can be crazy at busy times, with waiting time up to an hour! But the food and the cute Japanese chefs are worth the wait! ;)
The type of food served are tapas style, which are in small bites. The almond tofu dessert is yummy! Oyster with cheese is also a must-try! Also don't miss the grilled squid and grilled black cod - must try! My Japanese friend did give a good endorsement of their food and ambience - very authentic!
