Sacrifice to Arts

Just watched the movie "Angel" on the other day...feel sad for those people dealing with arts, because no one admires their masterpieces until they died. And usually they died of depression as no one shows the appreciation for their work.

Perhaps the nature of the arts industry is such that it is very subjective, and success of an artist is dependent and measurable by the subjectivity of the audience. Otherwise the art pieces are of no value then...though the artist himself do value them very much...

As I went through the life story of the artist in Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam, it was all about his struggle against innovation, trial & errors, lack of motivation, depression, illness, lack of money, and finally to the path to suicide...

How could they live in such a way under the judgement of others? Do they really enjoy their life of arts? How could they be so passionate about it, yet not gaining happiness out of it?
